By now, you might have heard about the new social platform creating a buzz, Clubhouse. But what exactly is it and can nonprofits benefit from it?
Clubhouse is an audio-based social media app that allows people to speak on topics, tell stories, share ideas and meet interesting people (including celebrities) from around the world. That's right, no cameras and no messaging; just audio! You can bounce around to different rooms covering specific topics, and you can choose to speak and contribute to the conversation or just enter a room and listen on mute.
If you raise your hand, you have the opportunity to be called on stage to join the discussion. The more you contribute to the conversation, the higher the chance you'll be made a moderator for that topic, which allows you to call others up on the stage. Because it is still in Beta mode, it is not available to the general public without a specific invite, BUT if you're an iPhone user, you can download the app and reserve a username until you receive an invite.
So how can nonprofits benefit from using this new app when it becomes available? One word: NETWORKING. We've all seen networking events decrease as a result from the pandemic, and it's become harder to make professional connections outside of your office. One of the most incentivizing features about the app is the ability to connect with an exclusive network of tech giants, celebrities, and activists.
Once you've gained access, here are 4 easy ways nonprofits can use it to their benefit:
1. BUILD RELATIONSHIPS
This app will be a powerful way to make business connections. You can use it as an opportunity to invite people on a tour of your organization or build a new relationship where both parties benefit. Rather than exchanging business cards, you can exchange your nonprofit's social media handles or business emails.
2. TEST IDEAS
Because a variety of topics are offered, it will be a great app to test out ideas for content! If you are still trying to figure out what topic to cover for your next blog post or which video marketing topic to highlight, you can pitch the idea and hear the room's immediate reactions to gauge whether to move forward with it or cross it off your list.
3. BRAND AWARENESS
Regardless of what room you enter, you'll be representing your nonprofit. You'll have the opportunity to not only highlight your organization's mission but to educate those in the room about the programs and services you provide.
4. STAND OUT AS AN EXPERT
This app will allow individuals to stand out as experts in specific topics as they are promoted to speakers and moderators. The more your organization appears as an expert in the field, the more trust you can build that could lead to new supporters and possibly new donors.
It's important to keep in mind that just because a new app is available, it doesn't mean that it's right for your organization. Review the pros and cons of the platform and if you believe it's a good fit, start with building a strategy behind it first. This will set your nonprofit up for success and the ability to reach short and long term goals for that fiscal year.
