it's free content!
Nowadays there seems to be 101 Awareness Days - National Chocolate Day, Bosses Day, Hug Your Neighbor Day - and the list can go on and on. The question is, should your nonprofit highlight any?
The simple answer is YES! Awareness Day's offer a golden opportunity to make your content unique to your nonprofit, but don't go overboard. You shouldn't build your entire marketing strategy around them. Use these fun holidays every now and then as opportunities to stay connected and engaged with your followers. Use trending topics and holidays to bring your nonprofit to the forefront of everyone's feed and maximize your use of relevant hashtags. This will ensure people can find you when their searching for #MentalHealthDay or #WorldEmojiDay
choose your content that:
Directly correlates with your nonprofit
Showcases your brand personality
Provides an engaging topic for your audience
Far too often I see nonprofits fail to post content that highlights their brand personality. Don't know what your brand personality is? It's the tone and style you use to guide your communications. An effective brand personality will help your nonprofit distinguish itself from its peers. Brand personality is one KEY factor to why people choose to follow a company on social media.
In simpler terms, consumers want companies to feel more human and relatable. Are all of your posts asking for donations, event attendees or talking about what services you provide? If you're not posting engaging content, your brand will get lost among the masses. Try to inject humor and be consistent with it, have a point of view, and interact with customers who send you feedback.
examples everyone can try are:
Share some fun facts around a holiday like President's Day or Bosses Day
Encourage good deeds with ideas like donating a wrapped gift on National Gift Wrapping Day
Hold a photo content for National Pet Day or National Chocolate Day
Highlight a local artist on National Artist Day
Show appreciation for your followers on National Compliment Day
Share team photos on Hat Day or Friendship Day
